2009 PEZ WATCH

SCHEDULED 2009 RELEASES

January — Cherub & Hot Pink Crystal Heart - Valentine Set. And Cuddle Cubs BROWN BEAR. The 5th in this set.
January — Pete The Cat & Goofy (new Goofy to go with last years new Minnie, Mickey and Donald) - Disney Clubhouse SetThere is also a new Daisy Duck, as part of the new Disney Clubhouse Set. The difference with the "old" Daisy is hard to notice. From the side the bow of the 2009 version slants back much more than the old version.

AND there is a very newly discovered CLUBHOUSE PLUTO. This is a surprise new version. Note the 2009 edition has longer, fatter ears and a somewhat "meaner" look. This makes a whole new Mickey and gang set.

February — Star Wars Clone Wars - New Set (with 5 repeats)

February — Rubber Duck & Chocolate Bunny - Easter Set

Madagascar set with purchase of DVD at Walmart

May — Scrat w/nut & Dino Momma - Ice Age 3 Set

August — Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine & Spiderman - New Super Heros Set. Apparently Wolverine and Spidey are repeats.

August — Disney’s Fairies– Fawn, Rosetta & Terrance

September — Toy Story – Buzz Lightyear (repeat ), new Woody, & Rex (no Jesse as previously reported) - Best of Pixar Set.

Release is prompted by Toy Story and Toy Story 2 out in October this year as a double feature in 3-D. Maybe Jesse will be out with Toy Story 3 scheduled for June 2010.

September — WIZARD OF OZ GIFT SET – 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Boxed Set –Preliminary info includes 8 characters - Dorothy, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, The Wicked Witch, Glenda the Good Witch, Toto and The Wizard

September – Princess Tiana – Star of 2009 Disney film The Princess and the Frog - Disney Princess set

September–Halloween Bat–Halloween Set

October — WINNIE THE POOH SLEUTH GIFT SET–Includes Winnie Sleuth (new) and Tigger Sleuth (new), Darby and Buster. News Flash! (April 5th) Word on the street is that this set is canceled. Reportedly the release corresponded with a new Pooh TV show which was canceled Another News Flash! (4/15) - The below characters just started showing up on e-bay as a European only issue.

October – Polar Bear – Christmas Set

Some other sets are announced for Europe release in 2009.

NEW FOR VALENTINES 2009

The VALENTINE CHERUB

PEZ continues their new line of crystal hearts with
HOT PINK CRYSTAL HEARTS for 2009.
This edition only comes in only 3 sayings (all in black).
Past recent issue have come in 13 with saying in 2 different colors.

Here is the current CORNWALL COLLECTION roster which includes one of each heart color combination ever issued.

There is also a new Valentine plush 'CUDDLES BEAR' out for 2009. I haven't seen it advertised anywhere (but I have seen it in real life).
It is NOT one of the characters below - all of which are already in the collection.
Who can be the first to describe what the new CUDDLES BEAR looks like.?

12th CHRISTMAS STOCKING

This is a special boxed set issued in the fall of 2008. The 4 pieces are all Lightning McQueen

and with special writing on the stems.
This came out about the same time as the BATMAN boxed se...t which Robbie got in Boston... Yahoo.

THAT DOES IT... THAT'S ALL THE NEW ACQUISITIONS FOR 2008. The total of new models is 96. Counting a few exact duplicates which came in sets such as the DISNEY PRINCESS boxed set and including Robb's 4 in the Batman boxed set... the collection was added to by 109 in 2008.

This is the 5th in the HELLO KITTY series.
It is rare, and also a little exciting to come across a character of which you had no previous knowledge. We knew of no announcement this was coming or indication that was on any of the PEZ news sites nor had it showed up on e-bay. It just showed up in stores. When I first saw it I didn't know if it was part of the Halloween series or some other obscure series. Frankly I don't know enough about the HELLO KITTY phenomenon to know if there are any others that could be released as a new PEZ in the future.

It is appropriate that Elizabeth receive this character as it completes the CLEAR CRYSTAL KOOKY ZOO set, the first 3 characters of which Elizabeth donated to the museum for her birthday back in May 2007 (See post of May 3)

Two CRYSTAL PEZ-A-SAURS

FYI - PEZ dinosaur dispensers were first released in Europe in the 1990s, and later in the decade they came to the U.S. as a family called Pez-a-suars. Each character has it's own name - they are - in order in the photo above (of the crystals and minis) - Fly-saur, I-saur, He-saur, and She-saur. Pez-a-saurs are a rare family of images that are PEZ creations not modelled after popular animation characters or based on particular historical individuals.

Each one of the four editions - plain stem, paw print stem, bone print stem and colored crystal are issued in five colors (plus orange). Now we have all four different colors and a representative of all four editions. Plus we have have the very special edition (not pictured) white Barky Brown, with black stem, MOC.

1st CHRISTMAS STOCKING

For auld PEZ acquaintance be forgot... we shall remember 2008 as a pretty good PEZ year. As we were predicting the number of new acquisitions for 2009 many were interested in the number of 2008 acquisitions. Now don't be confused by the "30" posts under the "New Acquisitions 2008" tag. There were infact 80 new PEZ which included 71 new character editions added to collection this past year. This is NOT including those that Santa brought which were in stockings on the 25th of Dec. Over the next 12 days we will post each stocking's PEZ contents as the 12 DAYS of PEZ LANG SYNE to give each new PEZ it's due solo attention.

This is not to be confused with the special Target edition issued in 2008 (see 3rd Day of Pez-mas) which has a red cap. This is a very rare, special, special edition for a rare, special, special girl.

And so ends our 12 days of PEZ-MAS with jolly Santa. I guess we did start a day or so early. But who wants to think about Pez-mas on CHRISTMAS EVE or CHRISTMAS DAY? There are much more fun things on which to focus then (for some people).

Princesses & A Puppy

In honor of the puppy loving Paisley and her 3rd Birthday the new characters to the WINNIE THE POOH series are donated to the museum - Blue Collar WINNIE THE POOH, DARBY and her puppy.BUSTER.
Since the little princess Paisley likes princesses so much the two latest additions to the DISNEY PRINCESS series is contributed to the Cornwall Collection - POCAHONTAS and MULAN as freestanding pieces.

COSTUME PRIZE

As winner (co-winner actually) of the Ward Halloween Party group theme costume we were awarded some fun character candy dispensers... that's right, the ever popular KLIKS. Woo.. woo!

PEZ WATCH - 11/08

A NEW PEZ FRONTIER

Look for Star Trek The Original Series promoted to come out September/October. It's an eight dispensers gift set of the original crew - Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, and Chekov + The Star Ship Enterprise NCC-1701. The Enterprise will be unique for Pez as it depicts a ’scene’ (a Pez first), where you see the ship emerging from a nebula cloud The set will have a limited run of only 250,000. Word is they are slated for Walmart & Target stores - one forum mentioned it was found in Bed Bath & Beyond (use a discount coupon).

OCC PEZ - FYI

An unusual PEZ set came out a few years ago - ORANGE COUNTY CHOPPERS. Other than Betsy Ross, Daniel Boone and Paul Revere issued in 1976 as part of a bicentennial set, this is a rare issue of an actual person(s) and the first (and only to date) of a living person(s). Some may have wondered who these characters are and why they were "honored" by PEZ. Orange County Choppers Inc. is in upstate New York and featured on a regular T.V. show American Chopper which debuted in 1999 on the Discovery Channel. It is a reality T.V. program in which custom motorcycles are designed and built. The show has recently made it's way in rerun on local channels.

The Orange County Choppers Gift Set was "limited" to 250,000 or 300,000 and features the stars of the show: Paul Sr., Paul Jr., and Mikey. This set is part of the Cornwall Collection as shown toward the end of the video "How It All Began".

With PEZ dropping the "no real persons" rule, OCC opened the doors for any number of "real life" dispensers--rock stars (ELVIS), actors, politicians, etc... Many feel OCC will always be one of the oddest sets ever issued by PEZ. But hey, that's one way to get a $100,000 motorcycle in your front lobby.
